Saturday I played Little Miami Brewing Co. for the 2nd time. A really nice spot on the shady banks of the Little Miami River (and a convenient stop for kayakers and the bike path), the brewery has a big deck overlooking the river, a good sized lawn literally on the banks, and then a sizable inside area (pictures) where the bar and food is found. Last time I played out on the deck, but it was too hot Saturday, so this time we were inside, but could be heard inside and out. I haven't tried the food yet, but it looks and smells incredible. They do a lot with pizza here!

The brewery serves up about a dozen beers, and I think I've sampled about half of them over my 2 visits. My first visit was before I decided to do the Great Brewery Tour, so I didn't take notes... but I do recall the Bike Path pilsner was very refreshing, and the Misty Mountain and Centennial Hazy IPA were both very respectable IPAs, in a world that IMO is starting to get a little crowded with mediocre and sometimes over-hopped IPAs. These were both solid, though.
This week I started with the Grateful IPA (ABV 6.0% IBU 65), which, billed as a fruity IPA, was a real treat... crisp, refreshing, and well balanced with just a HINT of citrus from the hops (no sappy juice added). Perfect for such a hot day.
I then moved onto the Earth Cookie Brown Ale (ABV 6.0% IBU 22), which again was a really solid selection. I normally might not do a Brown Ale on such a hot day (I love 'em in the Fall), but I do love a well done brown ale and had to give it a try. It was so good that I stuck with them for the rest of the afternoon. A hint of mocha flavor, but not to the extent that they'd bill it as a "coffee ale"... just a hint to a really crisp, refreshing drink. Some complain that brown ales can have a sappy or thickness to them, and sometimes that's true (other times I think people are just afraid of the dark mahogony hue and make assumptions), but no fears with Earth Cookie, a perfect balance of body, rich flavor, and crispness, with a clean finish. I'm a fan.
